President lays the foundation stone for the expansion and modernization project in Sélibaby
The President of the Republic, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Ould Cheikh El Ghazouani, officially laid the foundation stone on Monday morning in Sélibaby, launching the extension and modernization project of the city. This initiative follows the President’s instructions, as part of the Government’s response to the heavy rains that affected the city during the past rainy season.
On site, the President received technical briefings from the Director General of ISKAN, Mr. Mohamed Mahmoud Ould Jaafar, acting as delegated project manager. The presentation included detailed information about the project’s components, execution timelines, costs, and expected impact on the city.
During the ceremony, the Minister of Housing, Urban Planning and Territorial Development, Mrs. Khadija Cheikh Bouka, delivered a key speech highlighting the importance of these initiatives, their scale, and their positive implications for urban development and improved public services.
On this occasion, the President also handed out badges granting residential lots to families left homeless by the floods, as well as commercial plots to households whose properties were impacted by the expansion of key road corridors (from the Wilaya headquarters toward Gouraye and the silo area).
The total cost of the project is 330 million MRU, fully financed by the State budget.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the President’s direct involvement. Mrs. Fatimetou Mint Abderrahmane, the first recipient of a badge, warmly welcomed this gesture and thanked the government for its care and commitment to citizens across the country.
